RR Log 06.16.10
Breakfast:
-fried egg + 1 extra egg white
-1/2 baked sweet potato
-wilted spinach
Lunch:
-salad: baby spinach, roasted turkey, pepitas, dried cranberries, Annie's lite mustard vin.
-1/2 baked sweet potato
Dinner:
-black rice
-sauteed tofu, garlic, green beans, carrots, red onion & bell peppers in wheat-free soy sauce
Snacks:
-1/4 cup quinoa with 1/4 cup white bean & tomato dill salad
-rice cake with 1 small baby avocado & a pinch of salt
Drinks:
-iced latte with almond milk & honey (have I told you lately I love my espresso machine?)
-1 glass red wine
Exercise: Back on my game! Hit the YMCA for cardio, only managed to get through 35 minutes and I switched machines 3 times. Underestimated how sore I would be from yesterday's workout! 20 min. on the 'mill, 5 on the summit trainer, 10 on the row machine. At least I mixed it up!
Notes: I can smell. A lot. I really can smell! It has been pretty consistent, and I think it has a lot to do with my new diet and that it maybe could have a little to do with being off the pill..... Hmmmm, it could also be that I stopped using my prescription steroid nasal spray....... Whatever it is, I'll take it! Also, I didn't have a snack attack after dinner! No late night snack! Yay!!

Danielle's log June 15th, 2010
Breakfast:
-buckwheat pancakes with ginger syrup (Robin, these are vegan AND gluten-free...let me know if you want the recipe!)
Lunch:
-leftover vegan Italian bake with polenta quinoa
Dinner:
-vegan taquitos (NOM!!) with fresh guacamole and organic salsa
-black bean, corn, and mango salad with fresh cilantro from my garden
Beverages:
-coffee with almond milk
Exercise: went for a nasty muggy run with Dave this morning. 30 minutes in Week 5 Couch-to-5k intervals. Man it was humid out!
Notes: Dinner was so delicious! Vegan, but probably not healthy because I had to fry the taquitos. Feeling really great overall. That run was hard because it was so disgustingly humid out. Need to visit the Y soon--I'm just having too much fun being outdoors when I exercise!

Notes: Ok. Tomorrow is the day! Tomorrow morning I am up & at the Y. I swear it! Can I also tell you how good those Japanese yams from Whole Foods are? Sweet potatoes are pretty much my favorite food, and these are milder in flavor, dark purple skin with a pale yellow color inside. They are my new favorite!

-Autumn Wheat cereal with chia seeds, wheat germ, fresh blueberries, and hemp milk
Lunch:
-leftover Cannellini Picata
Dinner:
-Italian bake: red peppers, eggplant, zucchini, yellow squash, onion, garlic, tomatoes, vegan Italian sausage, vegan cheese

Beverages:

Exercise: did a lot of walking today, yet, no "real" exercise. Run day is tomorrow!
Notes: Day 2 of being vegan. I kinda like it. It feels so much healthier...I think I'm even feeling a little lighter, maybe from not eating meat in a while. The last time I went vegan/vegetarian I lost a bunch of weight. Maybe my body likes being meat-free. Stay tuned.

Breakfast:
-2 organic blueberry scones
Lunch:
-cucumber salad
-pad thai with tofu
Snack:
-unsalted, roasted pistachios
-1 more organic blueberry scone...whoops
-1 turtle candy
Dinner:
-Cannellini Picata (vegan!): spiral pasta with lemon picata sauce, cannellini beans, capers, fresh basil, and sundried tomatoes
-1 piece toast with raspberry jam
Beverages:
-water all day
Execerise: Dave and I went for a run the day before, but today I had to help my friend move a queen sized bed and large coach from one apartment to another, so I inadvertently got a bit of a work-out in.
Notes: Robin and I have traded spaces as now *I* don't have internet at home. AT&T loves to do this to us every couple of months just for kicks. Assholes. Anyway, this week I'm challenging myself to eat as vegan as possible...not because I plan on becoming vegan, but just to be aware of how easy it is to not use so many animal products each day. So far so good--the vegan cannellini picata I made was just lovely!

Arrgggghhh! HELLO BLOG!!!
WHAT is my deal? It feels strange to be away from this for so long. I have to say it has also affected my habits in a bad way! Without reporting to this blog, I have indulged in Coca-Cola, bratwurst and countless bowls of cereal... I have been off of a good eating timeline, instead running around nonstop and then finding myself starving and throwing whatever is around in my mouth. Yikes.
After 2 weeks of not hitting the gym once (yuck!) I went twice last week and amazingly discovered I didn't gain any weight during my hiatus. This gave me some confidence that not all was lost and powered me through a few workouts. Since then I haven't had one day off of work and just feel generally crazy and I am missing my routine!
We will finally get internet this Thursday, so you can fully expect real posts from me then. I really am working on a new workout mix too, so look for that to drop soon as well!
Until then, I am trying to keep it real- eating pretty good for the most part, still avoiding dairy and gluten. I am riding my bike when I can, and I have to say, I have barely been drinking at all!
Talk to you soon!
xoxox,
Robin

Danielle's log 6.3.2010
Breakfast:
-2 sunnyside up eggs (cage-free, pasture-raised)
-1 piece of whole-grain flax toast (local and organic)
Lunch:
-vegetable panini with squash, sun-dried tomatoes, pesto, and cheese on whole wheat bread
-1/4th pickle
Dinner:
-AMAZING vegan avocado salad: avocados, mango, red onion, orange bell pepper, garlic, cilantro, sweet corn, black beans, jalapeno, cayenne, salt, pepper, splash of olive oil (MAJOR YUM)
-4-5 tortilla chips
-1/3 cup carob coconut milk ice cream
Beverages:
-skim milk green tea latte
-water
-coffee with soy milk
Exercise: Dave and I went for our first run since our 1 1/2 week vacation...butt-kicker!! Then I rode my bike to and from work...12.4 miles.
Notes: Well, I, too, have been lax on the updating of this blog...mostly due to the long vacation that Dave and I took to the west coast. Will write more on that later. In other news, I am having an epiphany of sorts about the factory farming industry (where the majority of our meat, eggs, and dairy come from) and it's caused me a total loss of appetite for meat and a very hesitant attitude towards dairy. I did have dairy today in the form of cheese and my latte's skim milk, but in general I'm finding myself turned off by anything to do with animals where there's even a small doubt that the animals suffered to be in my meal.
The eggs I had for breakfast cost me $5 a carton from my local co-op and I thoroughly researched the farm they came from for humaneness.
I've finished reading "Eating Animals," by Jonathan Safran Foer (PLEASE read if you're even minutely interested in attempting a vegetarian lifestyle--I assure you, you will be vegetarian by Chapter 3). I also read "Animals in Translation" by Temple Grandin (great book for pet owners, but also for people interested livestock emotions and behavior.) Right now I'm reading "The Ethics of What We Eat" by Peter Singer and Jim Mason--profound stuff. And, of course, "Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollan is sitting on my desk waiting to be read, finally. I also watched the documentary King Corn and plan to watch Food, Inc. soon.
Um. Yep.
